Are you kidding? You’ll be gliding around a tropical island on an open-air electric bicycle. “Bliss” is the word that comes to mind. Have a look at all the photos of happy customers in our Gallery or our social media.
Yes, eBikes are safe. We equip our fleet of Trek Electra eBikes with safety features that include headlights, reflectors, side mirrors, and bike bells. We also make available to you free of charge an advanced-technology helmet, and provide you with an orientation on the operation of the eBike and the local rules of the road. (And because we believe in creature comforts, we throw in a bike basket, backpack, bike lock, phone holder, drink cage, charging cable, and trail map (with suggested itineraries, at no additional charge.)
We have a fleet of single-speed Trek Electra Shibori Cruisers and seven-speed Trek Electra Townie Go! models. Both are Class 1 pedal-assist eBikes.
With a pedal-assist e-bike the electric motor is only engaged when the rider is pedaling. When the rider stops peddling the motor disengages. The motor augments the rider’s pedaling power, making it easier to ride into headwinds, to ride longer distances, and to ride when physically fatigued.
Yes, all riders must be at least 18 years old, between 4’11” and 6’5″ in height, and not more than 275 lbs in weight.
Your level of fitness does not matter nearly as much as with a traditional bicycle. If you are in good physical health, are able to ride a regular bike, and have good balance and coordination, riding our eBikes will be a (Island) breeze. (See what we did there?)
Yes! We offer free water refills, free air refills, and free spritzes of our house Sunscreen.
We’re big believers in creature comforts and 5-Star service. So we include bike baskets, backpacks, bike locks, phone holders, drink cages, charging cables, and trail maps (with suggested itineraries) with every rental — at no additional charge.
Glad you asked! Our MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) helmets were developed by brain surgeons and scientists to help reduce rotational forces on the brain caused by angled impacts to the head. The fit retention system ensures easy adjustment, and the Magnetic Fidlock® slide buckle keeps the helmet tightly on your head. Certified to NTA 8776 standard and ideal for e-bike riders. Complies with U.S. CPSC safety standards for bicycle helmets.
Well, our elevation here tops out at a whopping seven feet above sea level, so it’s hard to find too many places with a flatter topography. As for surfaces, Sanibel has a paved 26-mile Shared Use Path that circles and traverses the island. There are also some public roads on Sanibel that are packed gravel or crushed shell, and there are several hiking/cycling trails that are bumpy, dirt paths.
No, we do not; we only rent eBikes. But eBikes can be pedaled just like regular eBikes, without turning on the electric motor. So you can ride our single-speed and seven-speed Trek Electra eBikes just like a regular bicycle.
Trek Bicycles advertises a range between 40 and 50 miles on a fully charged battery. But in the real world, our eBike batteries generally last between 30 to 40 miles, depending on the weight of the rider and the level of motor-assist selected. The range can be extended by pedaling more at a lower motor-assist setting. (There are three levels of motor-assist available.) You can use pedal-and-motor assist to reach speeds up to 20 mph. The speed limit on the Shared Use Paths varies between 10 mph and 20 mph, so please maintain a safe speed.
It’s still a bicycle — you can pedal it. It may not feel as magical, and it’s a heavy bike, but it will still ride perfectly. These are top-of-the-line Trek Electra bicycles that just happen to have an integrated electrical motor. Having said that, we also include a portable charger with every rental, so if you want to top up your charge you can.
There are Island Breeze decals on all our eBikes, with a phone number to contact us if something goes wrong. Call us and we’ll bring a replacement eBike out to you at no extra charge.
You can ride on any Shared Use Path, public road, or hiking/biking trail on Sanibel & Captiva Islands. You may not ride on the Sanibel Causeway or Causeway Islands, and you may not take the bikes outside the perimeter of Sanibel & Captiva Islands. We include suggested itineraries with our Island trail maps, and on our Where to Ride page.
No. Riding an eBike on the beaches is prohibited; if we see telltale signs of sand and salt, we will charge you a $100 clean-up fee. Our eBikes may only be driven on the Shared Use Paths, public roads, and hiking/biking trails on Sanibel Captiva Islands. They may not be ridden on the Causeway or Causeway Islands, or leave the perimeter of Sanibel Island and Captiva Island.

Anyone 18 and older who has signed the Waiver/Rental Agreement as an “Additional Rider” and who provides their driver’s license cell phone number.
Yes. You must be 18 years old to rent or ride our eBikes.
No. You must be at least 18 years old to rent or ride one of our eBikes.
We include a portable charger with your rental eBike. One end of the charger plugs into any standard electrical outlet, the other end plugs into the eBike’s charging point, which we’ll show you during our orientation. An eBike draws about the same amount of power (two amps) as a typical laptop, so there’s no danger to tripping one of your breakers.
Our eBike batteries are fully charged in 3-6 hours. If you have an overnight rental, we do ask that you recharge the battery on your last evening before pickup. This helps us maintain the quality of our eBikes and ensures they are ready for the next rider’s joyful ride.
The short answer is no. The longer answer is: our eBike are water-resistant, not waterproof. Being ‘water-resistant’ means its electrical components are sealed to withstand the average ride in light to moderate rain. If you are caught in the rain please seek dry shelter immediately for the safety of the electronics of the eBike. Never ride through puddles or standing water.
We ask that you please park our eBikes inside the garage or under a covered shelter at your place of residence. While out and about, we ask that you park at a regular bicycle rack. Please always use the bike lock we provide with every rental.
Depending on the damage, you will be responsible for the cost of repairs and labor. If something does happen, please call us immediately so we can resolve the problem.
